I’m working, working, working every day I’m watching all my hair turn grey Got tired eyes and heavy feet Walking around these empty streets I’m running, running, running for the train On the autobahn I’m stuck again From bus to bus, around and around All this travelling it gets me down All this moving, it gets me down So break out the whisky, the stars in the sky Let’s leave this all behind So many days and years gone by But tonight I feel like I’m never gonna die I’m learning, learning, learning what I can I’m trying to meet all your demands Keeping up my self-control I’m digging myself into a hole I’m talking, talking, talking on the phone I’m falling like a rolling stone I tire myself trying to find the words I can’t recall all that I’ve learned I have forgot all that I’ve learned So break out the whisky, the stars in the sky Let’s leave this all behind So many days and years gone by But tonight I feel like I’m never gonna die

Well things are winding down here for the night There is no better time to try to do what’s right Ceilidh dancing dancers are resting their feet While outside all the smokers share wisdom on the street There’s a man who’s got his prey trapped in the corner She tempts him with the promise that they’ll see it through ‘till morning Young men bare their fists; they’ve got something to prove Drinking too much whisky makes you feel like you can’t lose Don’t make me the last one to leave Don’t wanna be the last one to leave The wind outside it howls, shakes the walls of the hall The band nod to each other, this will be the final call Last chance to find a partner, to feel their touch One final chance to feel the warmth you’ve craved so much We all come together singing auld lang syne Old lovers passing glances across the lines Promises that offered summers fruit Forever lost among the mists of winter’s cold hard truths After the ceilidh In the darkest of the hours Empty glasses, withered flowers The brave among the cowards After the ceilidh As the night comes to an end Never too late to make amends As we part from these old friends Don’t make me the last one to leave Don’t wanna be the last one to leave

Pour me wine into my glass Don’t remind me of my past Sing me songs that I’ll know Give me soil to help my flowers grow Cause I’m loving each and every minute Each and every minute with you You don’t have to question how this could ever be true Cause I’m loving each and every minute Each and every minute with you I don’t have the answers but I’ll give my truth to you Take me out to dance tonight Take my sins, make them right Let me bask in your light Take me on your eternal flight Cause I’m loving each and every minute Each and every minute with you You don’t have to question how this could ever be true Cause I’m loving each and every minute Each and every minute with you I don’t have the answers but I’ll give my truth to you Cause I’m loving each and every minute Each and every minute with you The time we spend together is over much too soon Cause I’m loving each and every minute Each and every minute with you I don’t have the answers but I’ll give my truth to you

There’s a postcard on my wall Says get shit done Get shit done is what I ought to do Who knows what awaits you When tomorrow comes Who knows what waits out there for you There are things I’ve been putting off Things I need to do The years they’ve come and gone all too soon History comes too soon For you to understand It’s much too fast to hold it in your hand In your hand I keep burying my head in the sand To shut out all the noise It’s easy to feel like I don’t have a choice I’m burning with that yearning For things that I don’t have I’m trying my best not to go completely mad I’m going mad You better give yourself some room to roam You’ve been feasting on that honeycomb Come on down from off your throne You’ve been feasting on that honeycomb

Sleepy Head 04:43
Sleepy head, can’t wake up Sleepwalking down the road I had myself a mystical revelation But I forgot how it goes Found myself staring blindly Another face in the crowd Another drop in the ocean I was standing on a hole in the ground Old glory Fading sun Back to the start To be begun Awakened by a new sensation Making rooms spin round Dazzled by your conversation I was captured, I was bound Got myself a sky full of sunshine The bottle pours another glass You were to me just a stranger Give a future to my past Old Glory Fading sun Back to the start To be begun Sleepy head, can’t wake up Sleepwalking down the road Had myself a mystical revelation But I forgot how it goes

Sitting in a room on an island in the middle of the ocean Thinking about home and all that I’ve left behind So I gather together the memories and feel them inside me To relive all the joy I felt in better times And there in the middle of this moment I start to question Did I ever have a home to leave behind Maybe I’ve been searching for something to hold on to Maybe I just imagined these things were mine And so the time passes each day feels a little bit shorter I struggle to find that place where I belong And every new town makes me feel just a little bit colder I’m starting to question just where I come from And given a moment of truth perhaps there’s an answer A chance to pull back the curtain and see what’s behind Everywhere that I’ve been and I’ll go has something to tell me An answer to give some peace to my worried mind

Like ships pass in the night Our meeting’s so brief No space to know you No sweet relief Well there’s more to be had Far more for us to know Perhaps our time’s not come The world turns to slow And the hands of the devil Are never too far Yearning to touch To unravel the stars With the passing of time The seasons come and go Slowly we get older Our years begin to show Well you’ve got your life And I’ve got mine Perhaps you’ll find your own way Maybe I’ll never find mine And the hands of the devil Are never too far Yearning to touch To unravel the stars

Glen Deskry 04:37
Upon the hills, across the pines Where the river runs through the glen At the banks of the Deskry there I’ll go As the sun sets over Morven Casting shadows in the fields Enough remains to sow your seeds and grow You carried the earth away Dug it out of the mountain Laid roots sown deep into this sacred land With all that you had to give You gave it everything Don’t listen to those who will never understand And your soul can’t let you leave what you’ve held What you built with your own hands, even though you had to sell There are some things we create we’ll never see But if we feel them they are real In the strath of the Don There’s a house reaching for the sky Gives redemption to those who come its way But you can’t find what you need Where others have lost themselves Carry on, you’ll find your own way And your soul can’t let you leave what you’ve held What you built with your own hands, even though you had to sell There are some things we create we’ll never see But if we feel them they are real There’s a long and winding road That’ll carry you through the distance Takes you back to where you need to be Give it time and give it space Give it anything it needs But don’t give up on the vision that you have seen And your soul can’t let you leave what you’ve held What you built with your own hands, even though you had to sell There are some things we create we’ll never see But if we feel them they are real

Let Me Be 03:58
Well I’ve been down this road before I’ve walked this line To think this way can lead me anywhere It’s a waste of my time It’s a waste of my time It’s a fight I’m losing Going round in circles and the past won’t let me be Just for a minute Let me be I may have spoken these words before I have heard these sounds But when I try to fly away My feet won’t leave the ground My feet won’t leave the ground It’s a fight I’m losing Going round in circles and the past won’t let me be Just for a minute Let me be It’s a fight I’m losing Going round in circles and the past won’t let me be And it’s time I’m losing The years, days and hours it never stops torturing me Just for a minute Just for a minute Just for a minute Let me be

about

Steve Crawford & Spider MacKenzie make music that is at times rich in warm, candlelight intimacy and in others all burning hell fire and brimstone. Bold and eloquent songwriting, and delivery, at times reminiscent of the classic ‘70s singer/songwriters, combines with acoustic guitar, wailing and weeping virtuoso harmonica.

To record this, their second album, they left their home in Aberdeen, Scotland and relocated first to Nashville to rehearse in the city’s historic East Side, soaking up the all the muse this musical heartland has to offer. From there they travelled on to Moon House Studios in Austin, Texas, to work with veteran musician-producer and former Texan musician of the year Chris Gage. The result is ‘Celticana’, music stylistically drenched in Americana set to lyrics that spin stories from the Scottish motherland.

Mastered by the five-time Grammy nominated Jerry Tubb (including for work on albums by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson among others), the pair are augmented at times by Gage’s excellent contributions on piano, mandola, mandolin, guitar, Hammond organ and harmony vocals alongside the mighty Austin rhythm section of David Carroll on upright bass and drummer Kevin Hall
